Galvanised wire ropes : Use soldering water

Stainless steel wire ropes : Use soldering oil

Soldering tin : SN 97 Ag 3 can be used for both types of wire rope.

How can I recognise which rope I have ?

– Galvanised wire ropes are strongly magnetic (visually silver with a very slight blue shimmer)

– Stainless steel wire ropes are not or only slightly magnetic (visually shiny with a very slight yellow shimmer)

The general rule is :

Wire ropes must be completely free of grease and dirt. This can lead to difficulties, especially when soldering used ropes.

With stainless steel ropes, soldering used ropes is almost impossible. If this is the case, clean well with thinner and compressed air.
